Things and Stuff.

Usually we try to put all of our updates in meme form, because we know that no one actually pays attention to *just* text, anymore.  For the few of you left who can read without the pictures, here’s what we are up to these days…

Got a bunch of sweet shows lined up for the Summer, including:

Friday 6/28 :: Dusk , Providence, RI w. Foxfires and Lord Almighty

Friday 7/5 :: Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub Up, w. Zip-Tie Handcuffs , idiot genes and Nervous

Saturday 7/27 :: Cambridge Elks, w. Harris Hawk and TBA

Aside from that, we’re making great progress on J/Q II.  Hopefully we’ll have some sneaky sneak preview stuff for you in the next couplah months.  We’re completely stoked with how it’s coming out.  It’s been a long journey to become what we are.  Unlike the first record, which was largely a recording exercise with lots of guest stars and semi-replicable studio sounds, J/Q II is very much representative of what you would hear if you come to one of the aforementioned live performances listed above.  Don’t worry…it’s still going to sound BIG.  We come strapped with supreme wattage.

Lastly….from pretty much out of no where, we got some national love from glossy, Ronnie Radke-loving rock rag, Alternative Press.  Check it out:  http://www.altpress.com/apr/artist/june_2013_ap_299/29622/

So…that’s pretty cool, right?  Oh.  Well…we thought it was.  But then again, what do we know?  We can’t even get in the Noise.

Love, hugs and reprieve from bugs to you all.  The J / Q’s.

10 Things I Learned At The Yngwie Malmsteen Concert I saw Last Night at the Wilbur Theatre:

1. You’re never too old to wear leather pants.

2. When tapping with the left hand, feel free to brush back your long black hair with the right hand.

3. Bring about 350 picks, because you’ll need to fling 3 or 4 into the audience per riff. Your roadie will keep you amply supplied by awkwardly galumphing around the stage between songs to refill your various pick-holders.

4. Take tiny little piggy steps backward and then kick one leg into the air. Shred. Repeat.

5. Don’t be afraid to drop kick a beer can across the stage. (seriously. that happened.)

6. The proper ratio of Marshall Custom Signature YJM100 Heads to Marshall 4x10 straight cabs is exactly 38:12 . Of those 38 Custom Signature YJM100 Heads, exactly six are to be powered on.

7. Relegate your entire band to the far right hand side of the stage; meanwhile your giant, awkward roadie can stand in plain view on the far left hand side of the stage to constantly tune your backup guitars and prepare for pick duty.

8. Even if you’re ducking down a little bit, you’re not exactly inconspicuous when running across the stage every two seconds to fiddle with something. This is mostly because you’re 6’ 2”, probably 215lbs and wearing a shirt that reads, in giant white letters, “YNGWIE WHO?”. Also, we’re running out of picks.

9. Despite all your best shredding, the awkward roadie can and will steal the show.

10. My fretboard is fucking scalloped. What’s your move?

J / Q Interview Med Swedish Music Blogg

From:  http://ghgumman.blogg.se/2013/march/interview-med-jq.html

interview med J/Q

What is the name of your band? J/Q

Name of the band-members? John Parker Northrup Alex Hartman [for some reason all mention of Q was erased from this interview — J/ Q]

Where did you grow up? Who says we grew up? We’re all from the United State of Massachusetts, though, if that’s what you’re getting at.

How old are you? Collectively, we are approximately 95 years old.

Who started the band? Levon Helm, I think. Or maybe Robbie Robertson? I don’t know, I’d have to look that up.

Where have you played 2012/2013? Boston, Cambridge, Allston, Somerville…pretty much everywhere.

Where can people see you? Pretty much everywhere. We haven’t figured out how to make ourselves invisible, yet. Workin’ on it…

Do you have a web-site? Yes.

What is the name of your best song? That’s like asking “who is your favorite kid.” I guess I’d have to say my son.  My daughter is being a pain in the ass right now.  She’s three, so that’s just how it goes.

Who plays what? Johnny plays bass and sings plays drums Alex plays synthesizers [Again…no mention of Q — oh well.  He plays drums, btw]

What kind of music are you into? You name it, we’re into it. I know that’s a weak answer, but it’s the truth. Probably why our album is all over the map, which is great for confusing lazy record reviewers.

Have you been on tour this summer? This summer hasn’t happened yet….so…maybe…?? I wish I could give you a better answer, but we haven’t ironed out all the wrinkles in time travel yet. Gonna figure that out right after the whole invisibility thing.

Do you have a planned tour anytime soon? Nope. But, we’re hoping that an unplanned tour might break out spontaneously.

Who came up with the band name? Johnny and Q. It was either going to be “J/Q” or “Working Title”, but we went with “J/Q” because it was more effective at alienating Alex and other future members. [hey…there’s Q!!]

Who writes the songs? Johnny, mostly, but we all work together to flesh it out.

what song do you play the most? Funky Honky. I’m not kidding. Q and I have been playing that one since our last band together. We’re pretty sure it’s the worst song ever. We’ve been playing it at least once at every practice since 2007 or so.

Do you play the same songs each performance?  Nope.

Have you released an album or single? Both. We have two singles and a full length available here: www.jslashq.bandcamp.com

Are you working on any new songs? Yup….constantly. Just recorded drum tracks for J/Q II , the follow up to the J/Q
